Free Energy Assessment

As part of Community Service, NTAEE provides free (no cost) Energy Assessment for non-profit organizations. We have analyzed churches, civic centers, shelters and care centers, schools, and other non-profit organizations.  If you are interested in obtaining an energy assessment for your facility, please contact our community service chair at [email protected].  Analysis is conducted by our volunteer members.

Volunteers with subject matter experts in Mechanical, Plumbing, Lighting and Controls to please contact Darrell Goss, our community service committee chair at: [email protected].   We encourage our Student Chapter members to participate and gain valuable experience.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Who supervises and takes responsibility for the assessment's completion and accuracy?
Our Lead Engineer oversees the entire process and is responsible for the quality and accuracy of the assessment. We use the ENERGY STAR® methodology to benchmark building performance and identify potential energy conservation and efficiency opportunities.

What is the typical timeline?
To begin the assessment, we require:

  • At least 13 months of utility bills
  • Access to as-built architectural and engineering drawings
  • The building controls sequence of operations

The assessment evaluates existing systems against current technologies and best practices. Site visits typically take less than half a day. If an Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) survey is required, it may be conducted during a separate visit under normal occupancy conditions.

A written report with findings and recommendations is generally delivered within 30 days of the site visit.

What level of assessment is provided?
Our assessment and deliverable are equivalent to an ASHRAE Level II Energy Audit.

Can you provide staff training on implementing and maintaining the recommended energy conservation measures?
While we do not directly provide training, we can identify and recommend qualified technical support resources to assist with implementation and ongoing maintenance.
